What was it like to be christian in palestine before israel existed? Do we have their perspective in the numerous ethnic cleansings done by israel?

Honestly not too bad. The Ottomans were idjuts, but the Egyptians were worse. After it was retaken in.. 1840? By an anglo ottoman force, there was several different sets of law courts and systems established outside the ottoman millet system and things were pretty okay. At least until the first aaliyah, pre-balfour, when 25k jews turned up and everyone realised they had a fucking problem.

Anyway. During the ottoman era everyone had to pay jizya and would settle out of court because courts favoured muslims. They escaped a lot of the massacres the ottomans perpetrated as they fell. During the Egyptian conquest there was massive repression. Afterwards everything was about as good as it got.
