How common was the Dendra armour back in the Mycenaean times?: https://youtu.be/aM-TuFkUXEA?
>>18253574Rare. Hideously expensive, it was only for the wealthiest or best connected.
>>18253752True but this anon is making it sound worse Back then the warrior class was also the ruling class
Out of hundreds of tombs of Bronze Age warriors found in Greece so far, only the Dendra tomb has had anything like it. There's something similar but not as complete in Thebes and the early reports of the "Griffin Warrior" excavations mentioned bronze strips that may be armour though nothing has been mentioned since. So, somewhere in the region of 1 to 3 in all of late Minoan/Mycenaen Greece. There's more boars tusk helmets (Dendra, Mycenae, 2 in Crete) but still rare.
>>18253574it was a prototype and a finaltype
Is there any consensus on whether it was parade armor or if it was actually meant to be used in war? Seems like it would be extremely limiting to the person wearing it.
>>18253574AI is basically Satan
>>18253574>stirrupsSlop
>>18253574The greeks themselves also kind of just assume it was pretty common, or just don't have a problem re-visualizing their own myths that way
>>18254186Oh yeah, I forgot, the Linear B (so Mycenaen script) for armour itself is a stylized version of the Dendra armour. Make of that what you will.
>>18253574Not a lot. >>18253752This
>>18254186Yes there is this old style website cataloguing bronze weapons and armour in the Aegean and it's worth a look for that. The reason why dendra panoply is so often depicted is because it's rather strange and unique looking, also complete which helps.https://www.salimbeti.com/micenei/armour1.htmIt seems this style was present but quickly evolving and especially the skirt was getting massively smaller.
>>18254270lol, now I feel bad for not noticing it earlier. what's next, wristwatches?
