philosophically speaking, what actually is worship? It's clearly not only "paying respect" to a God or just stating facts about how good he is, it seems to be an attempt to induce a transcendent trance like state into ones self, or at least that's how I've interpreted the many many church services I've been to across denominations. To put it even more pejoratively, it seems like people are trying to get high off of mental activity alone. However, the point of confusion for me is that this idea of worship as a means to induce a transcendent state seems to be frowned upon in high church Christianity. Is it participation in an objective reality or not? And following that, if it is participation in an objective reality, why WOULDN'T it be the goal of every Christian to get a spiritual high in every service? God is good and to fully experience his goodness should be a goal no? I suspect however this can't be explicitly said because it exposes something, they seem to want to take DMT or something but with a cultural assurance that everything they see will be "safe" and not destabilizing to their psychology
