Is there any data on how much Old Prussian dna did Germans assimilate?
>Otto von Bismarck’s ancestry is primarily Germanic (Pomeranian Junker lineage).* Y-DNA (paternal lineage): Common haplogroups include N1a1a1a1 (linked to Finno-Ugric populations), R1a-Z280 (Balto-Slavic expansion), and I1 (Scandinavian influence).* mtDNA (maternal lineage): Haplogroups H, U, and K dominate, representing European hunter-gatherer, steppe, and Neolithic farmer ancestries.* Autosomal DNA: Baltic populations retain high Western Hunter-Gatherer ancestry, with later contributions from steppe pastoralists and limited gene flow from surrounding Slavic and Germanic sources.Given this, people historically from Pomerania and northern Germany, including Bismarck’s paternal lines, likely carried a blend of Central European Germanic ancestry, which may include low-frequency admixture from older Baltic hunter-gatherer populations due to geographic proximity.
the Old Prussians weren't genocided, but just kinda disappeared quickly as a distinguishable population during the Black Death, when they fled their communities to become rootless people in cities, who had to adapt or die (cities have negative population growth)
>>18259785>>18260355They (The Old Prussians) were resettled to the Sambia peninsula and northern Prussia, where they were the target of frequent raiding by Samogitian Pagans. The raiding led to the area being a sort of no man's land, barely developed, so later during the times of the Prussian Dukes protestant converts from Lithuania were invited to settle in the northern territories. So basically the Lithuanians genocided and then replaced them.
About half of them were killed by the Teutonic Order for participating in Herkus Monte's revolt. The rest became German and intermarried with Germans. Some were still allowed to own land. The language still survived in rural areas until gradual Germanization and the plague finished it off. How Old Prussian were Prussian Germans? That's a good question. I have no idea.
