Why are there so many lies and false narratives surrounding the middle ages? Why are historians so intent on convincing people that it was hell on Earth and everyone was suffering 24/7 while being smelly, toothless, with bubonic hemorrhoids?
>>18266139It sucked because Tartar mong chimps invaded but it's actually awesome actually because now we get to genosterminate them into submission.
Slipping from urban, trade-focused, globalist and educated to rural, agrarian-focused, provincial and illiterate is an objective step backwards and it's dumb to pretend otherwise
>>18266148Rome was not particularly literate, was predominantly agrarian as well. The biggest changes were centralization. The fall of Rome was good for everyone but Rome - which is why it fell.
Shitty YouTube videos with clickbait titles probably aren't the most trustworthy source. While the middle ages have been denigrated, this has come from popular culture and things. I dare you to name a modern historian who specialises in the medieval period that actually presents it in the way you describe.
>>18266194>Rome was not particularly literateit was within the context of this thread>predominantly agrarian as wellYeah that must be why they named it that>The biggest changes were centralizationokay fat kid>The fall of Rome was good for everyone but RomeEvery ethnicity and polity in Europe was cross-invaded by blood-drinking barbarians and violently mutated and/or replaced
>>18266139>historiansYoutubers are not historians moron.
>>18266194>which is why it fell.Actually it was climate change
>>18266227So what's a historian?
>>18266139>suffering 24/7 while being smelly, toothless, with bubonic hemorrhoids?whoa this is me just without bubonics
>>18266275An archival researcher who scrutinises and analyses various historical documents and sources in order to come up with theories behind the causes of historical events and advance our understanding of the past and the people who lived in it. These findings and theories are then published and discussed by other historians in the same field to weed out weak arguements. Someone who merely records events and not their causes is a chronicler, not a historian. Someone who reads these works by historians but doesn't do archival work or come up with their own theories, even if they go on to publish a book or video, is just someone interested in history, not a historian.
Because they want to blame all the sins of the early modern period (religious wars witch burnings religious persecution modern day racism) on the medieval era
