Life is torture and I'm seriously worried about the possibility of eternal torment after I die. What belief system(s) can I adhere to that are not necessarily mutually exclusive and would give me the best chances of avoiding this fate? I'm not talking about going to Heaven or being "rewarded" for my faith or whatever. I'm simply interested in being free from endless pain. Serious answers only. Please.

I get you OP, but no one here will be able to help you, only you can figure this out for yourself. I suggest directing any questions to actual priest
Good luck.

Not to scare you but I have met a shapeshifting woman who looked like a Hindu wrathful deity or a Japanese hannya mask when I was trying to do a ritual to Ishtar. She told me to basically follow Islam. But I have also rejected some spirit being by praying 15 decades of the Rosary everyday (Deep raspy voice asked me "Will you stop rejecting me"), so who knows? Some Abrahamic religion is probably the way.

>Eternal torment

That's not what pain is for biologically. That's not what punishment is for legally. The "chances" of this happening to you if you die are very low. The people who write about this stuff are just passionate in the heat of the moment.

Well, this is just my personal conclusion but I think the best way to 'optimize' your afterlife in Pascal's wager terms would be (if you aren't legally Jewish) to be a muslim who abides by the four noble truths without doing anything that would constitute shirk. That way you cover two out of three Abrahamic religions (Islam and Judaism, because technically Muslims are Noahides) while minimizing the chances of a bad Re-birth in Dharmic religions.

This basically gives you 66% chance of avoiding eternal torment in the Abrahamic wager while minimizing Risk of Dharmic hell. This is by no means comprehensive, and you could probably optimize it more with deeper knowledge of Indian religions, Chinese practices, etc.
