How do atheists explain consciousness, it’s not a biological drive like anger, lust or sadness. It’s an inner voice that makes a truth claim about the state of affairs of the world, whereas other feelings are me, that makes me angry, that’s better for my survival this makes me horny etc. but conscience says this is not right, and sometimes it says so when it benefits you so it cannot be explained in a darvinian framework. So what is the scientific explanation for it?

Helps you fit into the group. Even dogs have ethical sentiments in their own simple way
>>18282659Conscience is a mixture of your instinct and your rapid rational moral judgment. Also, better for you doesn't mean better for the group you're a part of.
>>18282659>it’s not a biological drive like anger, lust or sadnessYes it is.
>>18282659>It’s an inner voice that makes a truth claimSo how do monotheists explain that the truth claims of the conscience are not universal and are not necessarily true (hence can't be the infallible projection of some all knowing god), you can think its a good idea all you want to torture and traumatize some other ethnicity's toddlers, but the other ethnicities clearly are not going to agree and just because you think that raising your children one way will lead to some high moral result (like thinking spanking them will stop misbehavior), doesn't mean that it truly will and that you weren't just being an abusive ignoramus.
>It’s an inner voiceno it isn'tthat's your internal monologue, not consciousnesswithout consciousness you would have no experiences at all
>>18282659it's all just atoms bro. trust me bro. we are all just stardust.
>>18282659Yes it's simply the system a brain creates to keep track of increasing mesh of complexity in stimulus. A flying insect has very little complexity at least in this regard, it will fly towards a flame since there is either no heat sense or what little heat sense it does have has no way of overpowering the flight towards the light instinct. Consciousness is just the brains way of allowing these sense to communicate, a side effect for sufficiently complex systems is self-awareness. A conscience isn't much different than any other feeling except for degree. For most species there is strength in numbers so it's clearly a collective survival mechanism. of course it's weaker than hunger. I'll give you the reverse question. Why wouldn't god make conscience or empathy a stronger emotion than hunger or sex why is it somewhere in the middle with sadism and other desires assorted desires?Plenty of time you will do the thing your conscience says and it will be bad for you, it is only helpful more often then it's feeling would suggest because we live in a cushy civilization. The job of religion is to train people to modulate their desires so they can function better in a unnatural environment. That's why people switch to new religions in industrialized societies. Society functions better if you spend your free time consuming product or researching tech than praying.
There is no answer to the hard problem of consciousness. Many atheists conflate it with "free will" or something religious and thus feel compelled to dismiss it with very poor arguments that betray the fact they don't understand it, however I just accept there is no real answer.

>>18283280That post mentions conscience on the third line? Try ctrl-f or tiktok if reading is too much, it's dead tech anyhow.
>>18283284You mean the original post?OP immediately clarified that he meant conscience the entire post instead of consciousness, you are the one who needs to read more than just the original post before contributing since most your post was about consciousness which OP said he didn't mean to mention.
