France is underpopulated. Why?Early secularization? Early urbanization? Too much war? Feminism?Or is UK overpopulated in comparison? Why?
Imagine Sun King Louis and Emperor Ogre Manlet conquered Britannia
>>18287098Norman Normanov did, little changed.
Both. Britain got overpopulated as coal mining took off replacing firewood allowing more land under cultivation plus massive urban growth fueled by imports from eastern europe. France got underpopulated through the 1800s as the first to enter the demographic transition.
>>18287084>Napoleonic WarsPermanently destroyed france's demographic advantage
>>18287084France is notable in the history of Western Europe for its late urbanization
>>18287084The world speaks English, not this faggot latin.
>>18287084In the 1920s French birthrates were already a concern. It was probably the first country to be impacted by this modern problem.WW1 and the meat grinder of Verdun also did a number on French demographics plucking away an entire generation of young men. Never really recovered from that (demographically speaking) the way Germany did.
The French Revolution permanently destroyed their demographics.Literally they never recovered.
>>18287206>In the 1920s French birthrates were already a concernThat was also the case in Weimar Germany and also one of the major concerns of the nazis.
>>18287423Germany still had solid growth through the 30s, they even managed to keep the TFR above replacement during the war, when millions of young men were away from home, and i have no reason to believe german TFR would've gone anywhere but up had they won.
>>18287423The nazis did more harm to german demographics than Atilla or the black death or the christian reformation.
>>18287522I disagree, Germany just about recovered during the 60s before the baby boom ran out of steam, meanwhile the 30 years war left parts of the country depopulated for 200 years compared to pre-1618 levels. Probably the single most traumatic part of German history.
>>18287615WW1 France: 40 million.Today France: 70 million (75% growth)WW1 Germany: 70 million.Today Germany: 85 million (20% growth). And yes, many french are immigrants. And yes, some germans stayed behind in lost territories. But most french are the same old french, and most germans moved to the fatherland.
