I am atheist because I was never raised to believe in any religion, so I never had any belief in god to start with. It was just another fable like the tooth fairy or santa clause to me. When I was little it didn't seem weird that people talked about god like he was real, because they often did that with Santa or the tooth fairy as well, to humor children like me, but when I got older I realized that this particular set of lies was something you weren't supposed to question.

So I don't really see myself as having a lot in common with people like the one in the OP, who seems more like he's just depressed and a little self centered and desperately wants god to be real and is throwing a temper tantrum because his imaginary sky daddy isn't paying attention to him.
