>completely optional>If they agree, they get to choose a close-combat weapon and undergo a year of HEMA training with it>At the end of the year, they face an opponent who did the same>The fight is to the death and broadcast live>Historians get valuable experimental data on historical weapons and armor>The government earns revenue from betting and advertising>The public gets a great showwe are really missing out here
>>18287419>Historians get valuable experimental data on historical weapons and armorVery few historical fights happened one one one. You would have to get entire armies of death row inmates fighting to get an accurate picture of how weapons were used.
>>18287427damn you made it even better!!!
>>18287419>valuable experimental dataWould any data gathered from such fights actually be useful? For it to be accurate and applicable to history, the armor and weapons would have to be historically accurate, so either expensive to or impossible to produce. What more could damaged armor and dead bodies from a small number of unique fights teach historians than studying actual old pieces of armor or studying non lethal reenactments that can be repeated much more easily could?
>>18287591historically accurate armor and weapons are literally the easiest part of it. it's not expensive nor hard to produce (that's exactly why it was used in middle ages duh)
>>18287626*not expensive nor hard with modern technology, back then of course it was peak of it
>>18287419HEMA is gay, Fighting with armor in a war in normal but to prove a statement is so fucking gayJust make them fight with no weapons and no rules
>>18287626It takes atleast a better part of the year to commission a proper harness with modern alloys and modern forging tools. If you want an armor that performs to the exact specification of let's say, high medieval armor you'd need a smith that somehow knows how to slack quench properly using without manganese alloys or a swords and weapon smith that knows how to make "purified" pattern weld steel which is completely inferior to modern spring steel but takes triple the effort.Everything will basically have to be a custom job for a lackluster armor that has none of the benefits of modern buhurt armor save for authenticity. Like its a cool idea but at the point it's just easier to watch Buhurt because the maintenance cost wil likely sky rocket.
>>18287643https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mOKZjR-609gif russian youtubers can do it in 6 videos it won't be any hard for govenment sponsored and historian informed blacksmiths.yes it is a custom job. but not a hard one. probably will cost like $6k instead of $600 for a regular modern kit
>>18287638>HEMA is gayyeah, and this isn't gay at all
>>18288254Well its two men with equal weapons
>>18287419It would result in only the really dangerous psychotic bastards always going free.>Evil fucker rapes and murders your wife.>Wins trail by combat>Does the same to the rest of your family and you.Not the best system for justice.
>>18287419>>18287638it's called prison
>>18288250>if russian youtubers can do it in 6 videosAnd how long do you think this took instead of just using a modern billet and instantly creating something superior in less then a week? Like i said maintenance is crazy. Also again literally everyone uses Mangalloys or titanium in modern armouring. You basically have to create an entirely redundant industry just to make it accurate. 600$ for a second hand modern buhurt specific kit isn't even close btw. It's 5k alone for a mass produced historically "inspired" kit and the costs just keep rising for more reputable smiths.
