if you havent invested the time to read the original texts, untranslated. can you even call your self a Christian? its the word of god and you cant even invest the time to learn the language? this is why all religion of the 21st century is indistinguishable from atheism and is purely performative.
>>

Duh. Religion is (partially) about being part of a community, which you largely perform for.

The holy spirit has translated the words into English. There are interlinear bibles available to study archaic meanings, and A.I. is pretty good at finding well documented idioms and wordplay.
>>
>>18290119
What language are you referring to? Hebrew (for the Old Testament) or Greek (for the New Testament)? Also God doesn't speak either of these languages, His word is beyond our earthly alphabets. Those are the most accurate interpretations simply because the people who witnessed His glory firsthand and wrote it down did so using those languages. And to that extent many Christians do take the time to learn them, but the Scripture alone is not enough to save you so in having to rely on Church interpretations of the text anyways why is relying on Church translations such a bad thing?

Like I said in an earlier post, plenty of Christians take the time to learn Greek, to learn Hebrew. They read the original texts, this isn't just some forbidden knowledge of the Vatican. It's literally available to anyone with the ability to read it. Centuries of Saints and Scholars brought you this ancient wisdom but you just deny it and want us to deny it too. Sorry but I still trust God and his messengers

its crazy how weebs are more dedicated to anime and manga by actually learning the language, than christfags who cant even be bothered to learn what their subs actually say.

Most Christians have never fasted on purpose despite it being a major fixation of both Tanakh and New Testament.

Both the Gospels and the Torah are also possibly the very two books most amenable to source critical study. Yet most Christians have never studied them with an eye for source criticism.

I guess you didnt read this part.

That’s because weebs are degenerate losers with nothing but free time on their hands, while most Christians are
>>18290119
Too busy being productive to have that kind of intensive study, especially since all languages used in the bible are now dead. The common believer may not be able to read the word of God in its original language, but the word of God translated into the common tongue remains the word of God just as the king’s speech translated into Spanish remains the king’s speech, as the King James translators said.

The book of genesis stole from the epic of gilgamesh which was (mostly) written first, and there is historical evidence that the jews had copies of the epic of gilgamesh before they wrote genesis.

For example:
The Epic of Gilgamesh had a story about Enkidu and Shamhat.

Enkidu was a man who lived like a wild animal until a woman named Shamhat tore off her clothes without being ashamed. Then they had sex for seven days in a row and enkidu became "like a god" and he gained "the knowledge of women" and that is when he became a man and wore clothes. Enkidu and Shamhat was written before Adam and Eve.

The flood and Ea was written before Noah's arc.

Utnapishtim was warned by the god Ea that the gods were planning to destroy man for their inequity with a flood. So utnapishtim built an arc and kept his family and the animals on the arc. The dimensions of the arc are provided and they are similar to those in genesis. After the flood utnapishtim looses a dove to look for dry land.
This story was also published and circulated before Noahs ark. Lol.

I think his point is to read the originals. To be fair, the NT is all original.
>>
>>18290382
I like the way the intellectually dishonest propaganda jumps back and forth in both texts to manufacture parallels, and even then the “parallel” is stuff like “look both of these parts use the word lion they must be the same!”
>>
>>18290387
There's more evidence for these stories being plagiarized than for Hebrew being the original language of the writings. These aren't stretches, but to argue that they were originally written in Hebrew take leaps and bounds and the grasping of many straws.

You've never read anything older than the bible then.

Go ahead. Prove your theory.
>>
>>18290528
It's not my theory. Scholars are writing about Homer's influence on the NT, additionally other Greek plays. I guess you don't follow the scholarship at all.
Next you'll say that Acts wasn't pulling stuff from Josephus.
>>
>>18290534
Surely you mean that Homer influenced the OT, since he did, but also Josephus was writing about the NT. You have it backwards.

>Jesus says stuff
>says it’s the world of God
>they kill him

>just trust me, bro
This is dumb. Forget about religion and focus on believing in God only. What do you need religion for anyway, if you believe in God then you know you’re being watched and assessed, so you’re going to be on your best behaviour.
People out there are profiting immensely off of religion. That’s what religion has achieved, profiteering. They even create their own mascots, like Jesus.
Why is believing in the word of a magic man (Jesus) necessary for you to believe in God?
If you were born in a different part of the world you would believe in something completely different. Wake up, fool!

>I choose to live in a reality of my own invention because I hate God
Atheism is a religion of lies.
>>
>>18290569
Certain people that choose to not believe in God do so, so they can do evil stuff without worrying about being punished. They desperately don’t want to believe in a God because they know that they are massively fucked in the afterlife.
>>
>>18290542
NTA but if you're not familiar with the theories that Acts substantially depends on Homer and Josephus, stop wasting your time on Gmirkin and read serious scholarship. I agree with him because these facts seem plain, the NT is hardly wholly original. I might also add that Matthew conflates material from the original Didache (see Garrow on this).
>>
>>18290584
You're acting like saying "The NT is hardly wholly original" is some groundbreaking statement, when basically all NT scholars agree that it isn't, since it draws on Greek and Roman literature usages and Jewish scripture. You're just cherry picking minority opinion sided scholars to try to present new speculation as revelatory fact.
