Why was free silver such a big deal back then? Why did Republicans favor the gold standard over the silver?

It's a big deal now; it just goes by a different name. The question back then:
> should currency have an unlimited expansion?
> should inflation be used as a tool to make the debt already owed by the population 'cheaper'

Replace silver with federal reserve note, and there are only a few differences

>india was bottom of the barrel even in 1896

What if I told you that people who own a lot of gold back a gold standard, and people who own a lot of silver back a silver standard, and that there's nothing more complicated to it than that?
