Why does mainstream culture think muskets sucked? Its pretty obvious why they replaced all other types of weapon.

Media depictions of the hero always doging musket fire. In media about medieval or ancient times, the hero might geht hit but his armor and shild will save him. Such portrayals wouldn't work for media about the 18th century and thus the hero simply doesn't get hit.

>culture

because it's culture, and culture always has a distorted idea of what reality is

Tv and films show people shrugging off gunshots using armor all the time.

I have nothing to add to this discussion but I'll say that if it's good enough for hunting it's valid

Apart from the fact any medievalist worth a damp knows that knights in plate and guns coexisted for hundreds of years

I can only think of movies that are set in our time or the future, where they are armored with Deus Ex Machina materials like the bulletproof John Wick suit jacket.
In Pirates of the Caribbean not one of the main characters got shot (save for shooting Barbosa at the end of the first movie). In none of the Three Musketeer movies gets one of the protagonists shot, save for Aramis who is saved by his crucifix.

Fuck, it was this one. Anyway, the depiction of muskets as lame is probably because Hollywood doesn't want the masses to be armed reasonably. The US would be a better place if every citizen owned a musket even it were to be fired once in its lifetime. It's much more of a civic threat to the ruling class than it would be than some people consoooming AR15s like funkopops.

It's not "scary" like semi autos or autos so in an ideal scenario at minimum it should be normalized that most of the population should have a self defense weapon. It's hard to argue against. Instead there is a gun culture where only some individuals are armed with an arsenal of redundant guns (but won't ever use.) These gun owners wouldn't ever know when to fire the first shot against an oppresive authority because no one will back them. Things might be different if almost every citizen had a musket. Critical mass would be reached quicker even on the streets because you can see a person or group is armed with one from a distance. Militias would be more easily formed, right? Not on Hollywood's watch.

They should just allow the hero to get hit if they want realism

Plate armor wasn't phased out because of firearms, retard. Nor is history like a video game skill tree where you immediately discard everything old for something new.
>>
Well they are like a very familiar modern weapon except worse. Not so for a lance which is far outside the experience of most people

There’s no way a low pressure black powder rifle sends a far larger projectile at or above the fps of a modern 5.56. It’s not possible. Also basically no recoil
