I am trying to recall a figure of history during the Roman era who was a Greek who spread a minor cult in Rome that was a weirdly proto-Christian (but definitely NOT Christian, much more Pagan) mix of Hellenism and Judaism. Does anyone know who I am talking about?

Orpheus?

You don't mean the Mithraic cult, do you?

Or the Hypisterians? Or perhaps the figure was Philos of Alexandria? He was a hellenic jew who did some early syncretic work, I think.

Apollonius of Tyana? He was a Jesus like figure but as far as I know had no ties to judaism.
