It's not lost at all, the legacy of the Romans continues to live on in Europe. In fact, it's practically suffocating. You can't escape Roman influence if you have pale skin and your ancestors hail from Europe. Odds are very good your country bears the lasting, indelible stain of Roman legacy. Rome is basically synonymous with western identity at its primal core.
