The Danes used to rule all of the nordics with an iron nordic fist.
It's sad how far Denmark has fallen.
The empire of the north sea a thousand years ago was amazing.

Danes are our bros. They gave us hygge and these.
We will support them against Blumpf and American aggression

The empire of the north sea lasted all of 20 years before it began falling apart.

Also, that map is extremely exaggerated. Canute did not rule Finland, the Baltic tribes, or Iceland at all, and ruled only tiny patches of Scotland, Ireland, and Sweden. His actual empire looked like this.

Any other short lived but extremely soulful empires? I would be interested to see what would have happened without the Normans or the way NW European history would have unfolded if the North Sea Empire had staying power.

Canute lived way before the Finnish and Baltic crusades. Moreover, Sweden and Norway's territory wasn't extended that far in the north. This map >>18294144 is far more accurate to the situation, though it's not entirely accurate either. England did not just compose of the Danelaw area, and Sweden wasn't a tributary state to Cnut.
