Honestly, Halifax had a point.
The only way Britain was going to win the war from June 1940, was to use heavy bombers against every city, man, woman and child. They had no other means to fight the war.

And the only strategy Britain had to win was to wait for USA and USSR to become involved. This isnt a conspiracy, it was literally the gameplan. Meaning they knew the war would expand and become more bloody and more destructive, a true world war, and likely end with the 1945 geopolitical outcome.
By continue the war, they pressed Germany toward resource-securing strategies such as Operation Barbarossa.

Against this was the alternative to at least hear the German proposition. At least establish a dialogue. Yes the argument can be made that the Germans couldnt be trusted with a treaty, but it's a very heavy consequence against not even attempting, not even at least attempting to hear any offer.
We cant say for certain what the Germans would have done next, it can be argue that further aggression would be likely, but its not an absolute certainty.

Anglos will burn the world to the ground to save their sorry skins or even just get a few more shekels.

There wouldn’t have been further aggression, at least not at a scale which threatened Britain’s survival. Germany would never have been able to build a navy capable enough to invade Britain, even Hitler eventually realized that.

It's very simple, Britain is a maritime nation, and its lifeblood was trade. Thus a German victory was impossible to countenance, as dictated by British policy for centuries: To prevent the emergence of a dominant power on continental Europe and to keep the Channel ports open at all costs. It wasn't Churchill's decision, it was British foreign policy for centuries.

If Germany came to dominate Europe then it would have been the end of the British. First, because they would eventually come to control Gibraltar and Suez, splitting the British Empire in half. Secondly because they would come to dominate the British Isles themselves shortly after that.

>Germany would never have been able to build a navy capable enough to invade Britain
If they dominated the whole of Europe's industrial base then it would have been trivial for them to eventually build a powerful navy.

Maybe Britain should just stop being selfish little fucks over their precious channel. Island nations have no business pretending to power anyway.

>It wasn't Churchill's decision,
Never said it was Churchills decision, tho the pic might be misleading you into that conclusion.
I simply said that Halifax had a point in his rationale.

>it was British foreign policy for centuries.
Granted, it made sense from Briitsh foreign policy to continue the war, but it did not make sense for the future of Europe for them to do so.
I.e it was rational but callous.
They knew what the grand strategy was if they were going to continue the war; to do everything they can so the war expands. Like I said in my OP, their main strategy to win was simply to get the US and USSR involved, and their main arsenal was to bomb European cities.

This, versus the option to not even at least hear out the German proposal, not even entertain any dialogue of what the alternative could be.

I thought the British Empire was already over and it was a good thing Churchill sold it out to the US? That was the argument your side used to make

America is a much larger maritime power and was destined from the start to destroy Britain as both an empire and a nation. Don't feel too bad Nigel
>>
>>18294720
>We fought the war to defend our imperial interests
>But also losing our empire was good and going to happen regardless
Embarrassing
>>
>>18294662
Oh ok good thing you saved the British Empire
>>
>>18294662
In the end, Britain and America are both naval powers and could not coexist. One of the two had to destroy the other, and it was the British who drew the short end of the stick

They realized AmeriGODs were superior to them all along

outstretching the war in time is the best strategy ever against a country like Germany.
