Is Mandarin the reason Chinese are the most homogenous in terms of race, religion, and culture? Mandarin is very hard to learn. When you are an expert about it, your thinking would be similar to that of the Han Chinese. The Chinese characters are rarely created. Chinese only simplify the old words and use again the abandoned words. Mandarin even has many words descended from the Shang dynasty. The majority of Chinese people still have ancient native Chinese Y-DNA. The invaders' DNA doesn't descend to modern Han Chinese. In conclusion, the people who are comfortable with Chinese characters and Chinese culture would learn Chinese and become Chinese people. People who hate Chinese characters and Chinese culture would leave the country or stay away from Han people. Their descendants would be different from Han Chinese.
