At first people told me to have children because "you'll get it when you get older, it's something you'll want to do". I still don't and I'm almost 30.

Then I got told to do it because "when you're old you'll have nobody to talk to". I plan on still having friends at that age, if by some miracle I outlive them all, I'll see it as a blessing. As for domestic help, I can just hire someone with all the money I'm saving on not having a kid.

Then, starting a few years ago, I noticed my choice not to have kids is being met with downright agression, like i'm being selfish. I honestly get treated worse then when I would get cought shoplifting back in high school.

So what gives? Whenever I ask friends about why they have kids, they act like i'm attacking their lifestyle. Whenever I ask why should I have kids, they either laugh at me or act agressive like I mentioned above. The few friends that I actually really, really like, just say something like "you don't get it". Yeah I don't! Help?

I dare not to bring this up to my family because I'm an accident and I don't want to open that can of worms. So, why do people have kids, besides accidents?

>So, why do people have kids, besides accidents?
It's a biological imperative. For those who voluntarily choose to have children, your question is borderline nonsensical. What do you mean "why"? Children and reproduction are seen as an inherent good in and of itself which doesn't need any previous justification. For them the question is if anything the opposite: Why WOULDN'T you have children? What's your justification for that? From their perspective, they are the standard position and you are the deviation, so it's on you to provide a reason for not having children.

>Any philosophical reason to have them anyway?
For most of human history people haven't had to come up with a "philosophical" reason to have kids. People simply got horny and fucked, then nine months later bam, new human was born. There was nothing more to life than that. There was no contraception to control reproductive activities, if a child was unwanted they's just kill it or leave it in the wilderness to die off or getting eaten by wildlife. So since people were already doing it, it was easy to come up with added societal reasons to have children such as passing down inheritance, expanding your tribe/clan, continuing your traditions, bloodlines, dinasties, etc, etc, etc.

The only practical reasons to have children are:
>being an agrarian poorfag so they can be used as labor and a retirement plan
>being a richfag who thinks it's cool
For everyone else, kids are just extremely expensive pets.

Imagine realizing one day that you don't get hungry and have to eat like everyone else does. I bet normals would seethe and resent you over that too. It isn't easy being a slave to your own biological compulsions.

Are you going to be around your friends 24/7? You will just bother them too much and if you had kids, you could just let them play with their kinds while the adults fuck off to do whatever you want.
Ultimately, I don't think you should reproduce. So you shouldn't.

I have this, an eating disorder that makes me hate food and almost never feel hunger. Can confirm that people do indeed hate it.
>>
>>18328806
are you going to be around your kids 24/7 when you're 70+? maybe if you're on death's door
kind of a false analogy
>>
>>18328848
No, but at least all the stuff i've accumulated in my life will go to them. So they can pawn it off for cheap.
Maybe get grandkids to deal with.

Genesis 1

27 So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.

28 And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth.

29 And God said, Behold, I have given you every herb bearing seed, which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in the which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall be for meat.

Wow, not even one kid was named by the father?

>why do people have kids, besides accidents
other anons have already mentioned fear of loneliness, extra labor and income, and a magic book telling them to
further reasons could be a desire to pass on a gift of life that your ancestors handed down to you, or because kids are cute, or you want a pet that'll outlive you, or you want to fit in, or it'll help your career, or symbolic immortality, or you think childraising is fun, or it'll help your citizenship application, or you have a breeding fetish
but ultimately, if you don't want them, don't get them. it's a waste of everyone's time and energy to deal with unwilling parents. instead, focus on your friends or whatever your extra time and money can get you, maybe become a cool godfather/"uncle" that way

So because 99% of humanity have been soulless NPCs I have to be one too?
>>
>>18328765
I'd just like having a kid, preferably a daughter. I don't really know how to put it into words, I just think it would be nice.
>>
>>18329351
Following your natural instincts doesn't make you a "souless NPC". It makes you human.
>>
>Any philosophical reason to have them anyway?

Orphans need homes too anon
>>
>>18328765
despite telling you otherwise, the vast majority of people are socialists and utilitarians
>>
>>18328765
You were given the opportunity to live, if you do to others as is done to you, then it is good to have a child and grant them the opportunity as well. Others who feel this way, may see that choosing not to do so is morally selfish. Though if you cannot afford the opportunity, then I believe it is fair not to do so.
A significant number of children in the first world are "accidents" which is an outcome of people's emotions steering their life for them.

Beyond that, what this guy said
>>18328799
>being an agrarian poorfag so they can be used as labor and a retirement plan
Provided that you can support their growth, having a few kids and donning them a sense of responsibility can guarantee that you will be cared for in your own later years. Strictly looking at it this way isn't healthy but is a good way to factor your decision.
>>
>>18329351
You sound kinda soulless yourself, not gonna lie
>>
>>18329351
Can you explain what specifically makes someone an NPC?
>>
>>18329972
Posting on his. His is a retard board specifically curious about history because they aren't sentient of any events in the world and are constantly drawn to Hitler, lend lease and black cock.

>I noticed my choice not to have kids is being met with downright agression,
By who?
>>
>>18328765
>I legitemately don't want children.
You do you.
>Any philosophical reason to have them anyway?
Plenty. And they're all inconsequential in real life, like most philosophy. In the end it doesn't matter what ideas seem coherent to you, life is determined by active engagement and participation, which is only occasionally course-corrected by reasoning.
>I plan on still having friends at that age
Do they not plan on having kids?
>Whenever I ask friends about why they have kids, they act like i'm attacking their lifestyle.
You're exposing lack of rational thought about big parts of people's lives. You get the same reactions when you question materialism, religion, statism, individualism, whatever. People don't like being exposed.
>So, why do people have kids, besides accidents?
Because when you get a chance to create a being that's 50% you and 50% the person you love the most, it seems like a pretty good deal unless you hate yourself or the person you married.
