Was Muslim Arabia really that much worse for non-Muslims than Christian Europe was for non-Christians?
>>
No, non-Muslims existed in large numbers in the Islamic Middle East, while non-Christians were exterminated on sight throughout Europe with the curious exception of Jews
>>
>>18329739
I mean not really, they were also fairly tolerant of Muslims (where there were any to be found) for the most part.
>>
>>18329743
They exterminated Muslims in Italy, Malta and Iberia. Where did they tolerate them, prior to the modern era?
>>
>>18329744
I'm sure they didn't murder diplomats and merchants the second they set foot in Europe.
But I'm not sure if they would have tolerated them Muslim communities or worship.
>>
>>18329766
They weren't allowed to live as permanent subjects is the main thing, which is to say the Muslim population in Christian Europe was 0.
>>
>>18329768
Except in the Republic of Venice, while Muslims were discriminated they enjoyed tolerance there no other European state had at the time
>>
>>18329830
Not in Venezia, they just exceptionally didn't kill them in their Balkan possessions
>>
>>18329834
They had a Muslim quarter in Venezia, better than any European state at the time
>>
>>18329860
Where did they go?
>>
>>18329735
Not at first.
>>
>>18329868
The quarter was mostly inhabited by Muslim merchants who decided to Venice their home, I suppose they left during the age of nationalism and when venice lost its prestige as a trading hub

Still the Venetians were incredibly tolerant compared to any other european and I suspect is because of republican tradition and the friendly relations they had with Mamluk Egypt
