The entire country was about to fall to German troops.Germany had France at its balls and the only mistake consisted in not going completely nuts with peace conditions.Annexing Alsace-Lorraine was right. The real mistake was not to go much further. Annex all of Lorraine, depriving France of its industrial heartland and geographic shield against German invasion and award French Flanders to Belgium, depriving France of Dunkirk, a harbour where British troops could quickly disembark, return Basque and Catalan land to Spain and give Savoy back to Italy to deprive the French of defensive positions in the Pyrenean and alpine mountain passes, make Brittanny independent under a German prince and send a shitton of military support to engage the French in a two front war in the future, separate Burgundy from France as German client state, or heck, even annex it. And of course, force them to abandon their entire colonial empire or even annex it yourself.They shouldn't have given a shit however Britain or Russia would react, this was a French war of aggression and no parliament could popularize the decision to punish the victorious defender. Brits and Germans are cousins anyways and have no reason to fight for France. Russia has no reason as well since France is known for backstabbing and being a shitty nation.Germany was dealt a wild card and did not play it. This left France with the ability to successfully seek revenge against Germany and condemned German foreign policy to isolate itself in its bid to defy France.Remember how the French tried to cope about not colonizing Egypt in 1840 by we-wuzzing the Rhineland and calling for its annexation? Their inferiority complex knows no bounds. One cannot stop or satisfy the French just by refusing to extend their humiliation for once.It was inevitable that France would become Germany's enemy or be forced to become a junior partner.
