Afterwards they had a lot of autonomy within the Ottoman Empire, so no need for a separate state until the 1800s when the Ottoman's tried to consolidate power more.When the Ottoman Empire broke up after WW1, the French and English gentlemen drawing the new borders divided the kurdish lands between Turkey, Iran, Iran and Syria and the Turks, Persians and Arabs made damn sure they never managed to declare their own state.
