Reminder that Greece and Italy were at their peak when they were predominantly pagan. After they converted to Christianity, they became shitholes that produced nothing useful culturally or intellectually, or at least nothing useful culturally or intellectually that was because of Christianity.>But what about the Renaissanc-ACKExcept the Renaissance was kickstarted by Gemistos Plethon, who was arguably the first neopagan. It was he who preserved certain classical texts that otherwise would have been lost, it was his lectures on Plato that inspired Renaissance-era thinkers to take an interest in antiquity. The Renaissance only happened as it did because people took an interest in PAGAN texts. While many Renaissance-era thinkers might have been nominally “Christian,” their works were specifically inspired by PAGAN philosophies such as Neoplatonism and Hermeticism. Christianity itself played no role in any of this (especially when many of these thinkers like Giordano Bruno and Niccolò Machiavelli were literally accused of crypto-paganism).

>>18346985Yeah the Renaissance only started cause some learned men read pagan books. Nothing to do with the economic factors in Europe at the time following the black death. We must also remember the Renaissance was a one time event that has a clear beginning and end started by one man.
