Why did Portugal agree to THIS?
Duke of Alba made them agree with that, either they liked ot not.
>>18347777let me speak in very simple terms>spain being given nearly the entire new world$$$$$$$$$$>portugal being getting a monopoly on the African coast and the entire Indian ocean$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
>>18347777The parts where the treaty was easiest to enforce were given to them and the parts where the treaty was the hardest to enforce was given to Spain. Pretty good deal when you consider how far west Brazil pushed vs how irrelevant Spain was in Africa.
>>18347777Well, Spain gave all the Amazonas jungle for free to Portugal. Imagine gifting all the Amazonas to other country.
>>18347777Why wouldn't they? If anything it was Spain who got shafted. They were given a near uncontested monopoly on Asian and African trade for over a century and when other Europeans stepped up they had Brazil which was the richest gold colony in the Americas. Just read about the capture of the Madre de Deus, a single ship was worth more than half of England's entire treasury at the time
>>18347777The map is fake, neither Spain nor Portugal had the men and resources to actually do that. PD: Filipinas should have been to Portugal, so Spain could focus in Africa. And if something bad happened, Portugal would suffer it instead of Spain.
>>18347777THE OLD WORLD WAS KNOWN AND EXPLORED; ANYTHING BEYOND WAS UNKNOWN AND UNCERTAIN.
