>>18364184As I said in the other thread on Yugoslavia the only way Communists could have prevented this outside of not breaking apart the USSR in 91 was making same race/ ethnicity marriage illegal (think Paraguay in 1800s) and splitting apart each Republic by drawing up random squares for example how we did Wyoming, Colorado and similar in the USA.Giving each minority an oblast or a republic had the opposite effect of amping up ethnic conflicts by 11.

>>18362767It was upgraded to an ASSR, not an SSR, and an ASSR was always part of an SSR, in Crimeas case Ukraine.Today the only independent state that was an ASSR before dissolution is Abkhazia, but almost the entire world do not recognize it as such as secession cannot be unilateral according to international law.
