>>18362861I find it hard to understand, but I think the reason is because Russian leaders go through these cycles where internal problems build up enough and they don't know how to solve them, but they can bury them deeper and shift things around by presenting the outside world as hostile and menacing. It's like a substitution effect for something that's missing. The continuous expansion of military and police power is a structural requirement for however this system is constructed, and it can work, until it doesn't. It's all going to go ka-blammo one day and they are doomed but they're not "retarded."
