A lot of times the reason for this is the so-called ancient source is referencing the wagon train, when caesar was leading men in gaul as a consul, when he would deploy to fight some germanic or belgic incursion in the north, his force was almost entirely roman/gaulic soldiers, whereas the franks or proto swiss or whatever were moving their entire societies from one place to the other
On paper, caesars victory over the forces of vercingoterix looks insane, it was the romans' 60,000 or so against ten times that number, but sources from the time were, one, estimating, and two, they were counting the elderly, women and children in that number, the real number of actual fighting men led by vercingoterix was probably around 70,000
>>
How much of this is a failure in ancient sources to draw a distinction between non combatants and front line troops? I imagine the typical large ancient army would have 10s of thousands of support staff. Slaves, cooks, engineers etc . Most military employees today aren’t frontline “soldiers”

Neanderthals and denisovans bred into the human genepool due to the Toba explosion making the eurasian region miserable, followed by middle-eastern, maghrebi and african populations repopulating eurasia.
the "last neanderthals" lived in southern spain because that was the most isolated and hottest region of the eurasian steppelands.
The "conehead" royals of the following megalithic cultures were the most immunologically lucky hybrids between neanderthals, denisovans and humans, whose descendants became the domesticators of animals due to their passive arctic immunesystems not overreacting to livestock diseases like african or southasian immune systems did.
These domesticators primarily of haplo P, Q&R then diversified their domestication efforts, some of which moved over to the americas where their passive immune systems allowed them to also domesticate animals there.
civilization arose when people stopped having to hunt for animals, and instead could breed them or trap them for planned harvest.

Ancient source: We fought 100k men
Modern archaeology: There's no way in hell the country you were fighting could possibly support an army of that size
>>
I'm always skeptical of Ancient sources for this reason. The largest armies able to be fielded in the middle ages were around 20-30 thousand, and those were damn expensive. I don't believe that the Romans were routinely frightening with armies of 50,000 people.

THE MIDDLE AGES WERE A POSTCATACLYSMIC ERA; THERE WERE FEWER PEOPLE THAN IN ANTIQUITY.

So why are you judging him by whether or not he has a tripname?

Because it's obnoxious behavior and they/them deserve to be bullied.

>denisovans bred into the human genepool
They are sill around in Australia. But reasons no one can really explain, we aren't allowed to call them exactly what they are and have to pretend they there's no difference at all between them and an actual h. sapiens.
