Did workers in socialist economies feel alienation from their work?

Where I come from people worked way less hard during the 70s and 80s. Workers often drank on the job. Slacked off as much as possible and stole anything that wasn't nailed down.
>He who doesn't steal, steals from his family
If you were an unambitious lazy slob, socialism was paradise.

this, job opportunities were essentially evaluated not on salaries(because it didn't matter anyway), but on what kind of side hustle or connections you could get out of it
so you knew if you work at a slaughterhouse you'd bring meat home, if you work at a furniture factory you'd take some chairs home, if you were a teacher you'd steal office supplies, if you worked at a shop or a warehouse of some kind you'd get first access to rare deficit and quality goods, etc.

One of my favourite scenes from any comedy movie

Yep, butchers often sold the good cuts of meat on the side because good meat was hard to get.
Also funny story. My friend's dad used to work as an electrician in a truck factory. On his first day two workers gave him some very hard work and he just couldn't keep up, he was supposedly close to a mental breakdown because he was working so fucking hard. After about two weeks he found out that the two workers were supposed to work with him but instead they just goofed off for two weeks lol.
My granpa worked in the same factory and he used to steal metal and diesel. Basically all the metal my dad used to build our house was stolen by my granpa from work.

Honestly this is just the trades lmao. Tonnes of times sat in the pub with workmates while TA's/labourers didn't realise they were doing all our jobs for us.

Still pretty common in construction today, when I worked in construction, any copper pipes or wiring we had, we had to lock away in safes and often you would come back to see all your copper pipework missing. Workers often keep the offcuts to take to scrappers even tho they're not supposed too.
