On March 1st, Romania, Bulgaria and Moldova celebrate the day of spring and love, Mărțișor.
People gift each other a talisman made of red and white threads, often with decorative figurines, that they wear for the rest of the month and hang on a flowering tree when the month is over (or when they see a stork, meaning spring has come).

What do you think the origin of this tradition is? With which culture, for what purpose?
Post surviving old timey traditions, outside of christian stuff.

The tradition appears only after the Slavic Invasion and the founding of the First Bulgarian Empire, and it even matches the largest extent of the said empire's borders during the country's zenith.
