During the reign of Vietnamese monarch Lê Thánh Tông from 1460-1497 (Hồng Đức era) in Lê dynasty Vietnam, Lê Thánh Tông first banned self-castration of Vietnamese men in 1464.

Han Chinese men on ships who were blown towards Vietnam's coast as castaways were arrested by Vietnamese coastal patrols.

The Vietnamese selected the young Han Chinese men for castration to become eunuch slaves.

Over 100 Han Chinese young men were known to be castrated by the Vietnamese after the Ming government found out in 1472 from some people who escaped and reported over 100 Chinese men were castrated and still in Vietnam after their ships were blown off course.

The Ming government again had another report in 1499 from a Chinese eunuch named Wu Rui (born in Wenchang, Hainan) who escaped in 1497 after he had been enslaved in Vietnam's palace for decades after he was castrated as a young man on a ship that blew off course. The 12 older Hainanese Chinese men who were with him were enslaved on military colony farms (đồn điền, tuntian) in newly conquered land from Champa to do agricultural work.

The majority of eunuchs in the Vietnamese palace in the capital Thăng Long (Hanoi) in the Hồng Đức era were young Han Chinese men.

Older Chinese men were used as agricultural slave labour by the Vietnamese military.

The Ming government's only response was to issue warnings to Chinese civilians and soldiers to stay away from foreign countries like Vietnam.

No military action was taken by the Ming dynasty against Vietnam over this.

How did Vietnam know that there was going to be no consequences, no punitive retribution over the castrations?

Vietnam continued to nonchalantly send diplomatic missions to the Ming (which the Ming called tribute missions) where gifts were exchanged.

The Ming didn't even dare bring up or complain about the enslavement and castrations to the Vietnamese ambassadors.

Japanese, Ryukyuans and Koreans never castrated shipwrecked and castaway Chinese sailors and fishermen blown off course.

Koreans used Korean eunuchs domestically so they knew how to castrate men but they never castrated ship wrecked Chinese cast aways.

Vietnamese mass castrated random young Han Chinese sailors, fishermen, travellers sailing in the Gulf of Tonkin from Hainan, Leizhou peninsula and Qinzhou.

The only way people could travel between Hainan, Leizhou and Qinzhou in mainland China was by ship, and storms and wind blowing ships off course was very common during the age of sail.

Eunuch slave in the Vietnamese palace became the most numerous profession for Han Chinese Hainanese men from Hainan in the 15th century.

Hainanese chicken rice (海南雞飯) (Hǎinán jīfàn) is a famous dish made by Han Chinese from Hainan and spread to Malaysia and Singapore.

Chicken 雞 jī is slang for penis, like in 小雞雞 xiǎojījī (little chicken).

Leizhou peninsula and Hainan island is also the southernmost permanently populated part of China, far away from the Ming capitals like Beijing.

Most Han Hainanese never imagined or thought they would become eunuchs since most had no intention of ever going to Beijing to work in the palace.

But they forgot that Vietnam and Hanoi were right across the Gulf of Tonkin from Hainan and Leizhou, and closer to them than Beijing, and Vietnam's palace had a massive demand for eunuchs.

During wars, the Lê dynasty was notorious for using beautiful Vietnamese courtesans to seduce Han Chinese soldiers and pirates and kill them after sex.

During the Lam Sơn uprising in 1418-1427, the Lê used Vietnamese courtesans (Đào nương) to seduce Ming Chinese soldiers with sex, dancing and music singing (Ca trù), drug their wine with sleeping drugs and then put them naked in burlap gunnysacks which they tied tightly to beat with hammers and sticks and throw in canals and rivers to drown

The Lê also ordered all children of Han Chinese soldiers and Vietnamese Kinh women born during the Ming Fourth Chinese Northern Domination of Vietnam (1407-1428) to be enslaved.

In March 1682, a Han Chinese pirate fleet led by Yang Yandi was seduced by Vietnamese girls prostitutes (Hoa Nương) who went on boats to them and wet their gunpowder after having sex so they couldn't fire back.

The Lê may have castrated young Han Chinese men in peacetime to compensate for this, since Vietnamese women had to sexually pleasure Han Chinese men to kill them, so the Lê emasculated their genitals and made them eunuch slaves in the palace without sexual pleasure.

Lê Thánh Tông directly honoured the Vietnamese courtesans who took part in the Lam Sơn uprising.

His half-aunt, 9 year old Lê Thị Đào Nữ was taken as a concubine by Ming official Ma Ji to the Ming Chinese Yonglr emperor's harem in 1418. She was daughter of his grandfather Le Loi and Trịnh Thị Ngọc Lữ.

So mass castration of young Han Chinese men and using them as eunuch slaves in the palace could be an attempt by Vietnamese to reclaim their sexual honour.

The Vietnamese Le dynasty founder's daughter and wife were seized by Han Chinese

Le Loi was the founder of the Later Le dynasty.

His 9 year old daughter Lê Thị Đào Nữ was taken by Ma Ji to the Ming Chinese emperor's harem in 1418. She was daughter of Le Loi and Trịnh Thị Ngọc Lữ.

A decade later, when Le Loi asked for her back in 1428, the Ming rejected his request and claimed she died of smallpox.

One of Le Loi's other wives, Phạm Thị Nghiêu was also captured in 1418 by Han Chinese soldiers and held by them as a sex slave for years. She was later released and died in 1441.

>It was widely reported that when Le Loi’s daughter was only nine years old, Ma Ji had taken her away from her parents and sent her into Yongle’s harem.

>Sau cú choáng váng Lạc Thủy, Mã Kỳ liền dùng tên Ái, một kẻ phản bội, dẫn đường truy kích nghĩa quân, chúng bắt mất vợ con của nhiều nghĩa sĩ, trong đó có cả bà vợ thứ hai Phạm Thị Nghiêu và con gái Lê Thị Đào Nữ mới lên 9 tuổi của Bình Định vương.

>After the shock of Lac Thuy, Ma Ky immediately used Ai, a traitor, to lead the pursuit of the insurgents. They captured the wives and children of many insurgents, including the second wife Pham Thi Nghieu and the 9-year-old daughter Le Thi Dao Nu of Binh Dinh Vuong.

>Le Thai To had three wives but did not make any of them his main wife. When Ma Ky swept through, he captured Hue Phi Pham Thi Nghieu and his daughter. On November 1, 1428, the king sent Do Nhu Hung to the Ming Dynasty to demand and ask for the return of his 9-year-old daughter who had been captured by them. It was said that Ma Ky had taken her home to raise, and later brought her to Yen Kinh to be his concubine. That was Princess Le Thi Dao Nu (who died in China).

>3. Princess Le Thi Dao Nu: daughter of Trinh Than Phi. Captured by the Ming invaders at the age of 9, he was raised by the Ming Dynasty official Ma Ky, then brought to Yen Kinh to become a servant. In 1428, the king sent an envoy to ask to return. King Minh replied that the princess had died of smallpox

Japanese royal women didn't have eunuchs but Vietnamese royal women all had eunuchs.

Did one Vietnamese castrator castrate over 100 Han Chinese men, or were there multiple Vietnamese castrators doing the castrations?

What did the Vietnamese do with the penises and testicles after emasculating them?
