>the vice president has ONE FUCKING JOB
>modern vice presidents do not do this singular job

so?
>>
yeah
>>
>>18378707
>Hold "the most insignificant office that ever the invention of man contrived or his imagination conceived"
>don't feel like doing your job

Many such cases

Also, VP's real job is to take over when the president dies.

>I am forced to look up to it and bound by duty to do so, because there is only the breath of one mortal between me and it
>>
Being a vice-president sounds like a comfy job, unless you have presidential ambitions, you don't have to do anything
>>

as far as I know, the only guy who liked doing it was Jefferson because he got to be a rules autist about parliamentary procedures
>>
>>18379697
He was also the only VP from a rival party so I'm sure some of it was just exercising as much power as possible to undermine Adams
>>
>>18379707
>He was also the only VP from a rival party
Calhoun was both JQA vp and Jackson's VP and he hated and undermined both of them.
there isn't any power to exercise as the VP. you can literally just do parliamentary procedures that the majority party can override and then cast tie breaker votes

Wasting time is a viable strategy, especially when congress is in session less often. The 5th/6th congresses spent 233 fewer days in session than 115th/116th congresses.

I don't think the VP can waste that much time. again he can only rule on parliamentary procedure and can be overruled at any time
>>
Nixon was the first vice president to really be a co-president of sorts and actually do anything.
>>
>>18378707
The VP was a worthless job that essentially meant "backup President" until Nixon. TR actually hesitated to take up the position when it was offered to him because he thought he'd be so fucking bored doing it
>>
Their one job is to be president of the senate, don’t they do this? Kamala was doing this
>>
>>18381451
>don’t they do this?
they generally only ever show up if they have to break a tie. kamala holds the record for most tie breaking votes with 33, then Calhoun with 31 then Adams with 29 and then the next highest guy has 19. there are 12 guys with 0 and only 9 guys have more than 10. Like Truman, Garner and Wallace have 8 combined in 13 years under FDR.
Harris was just specifically weird because it was a 50-50 senate and more than half of hers were to confirm some appointment
