Was the 4th crusade as retarded as it sounds?
>>
>>18379164
Yes and no. The crusaders bought a bunch of boats and then when not a lot of people showed up they needed money
>>
Imagine claiming to be defending christendom by sacking the biggest Christian city.
Oof.
>>
>>18379240
Alexios, my boy…,
>>
>>18379164
It was retarded, I'm a byzaboo but the empire had already fallen apart. I'm more pissed that the Latins did fuck all with the city while they had it. They didn't comprehend the strategic value at all.
>>
>>18379300
You're saying the retards that sacked the biggest Christian city in Europe because "muh money" weren't geostrategic geniuses?

Sorry step -Byzussy but you should have not made promises you can't keep
also you should have not massacred our cousins
Now get ready for the BDC (Big Dandolo Cock)
>>

This, the worst part of the Latin sack is they didn't even use it well, literally fell back to nicea almost instantly, just to fell for the Turkish mercenaries.
I honestly blame the latins as much as palaogoloi for the Turkish takeover.
>>
>>18379164
Normangroids and Latins have been attacking Byzantine territories for centuries before the 4th Crusade(and the Latin massacre). Also Venijews revenging their opressed Byzantijews.

Venice did absolutely nothing wrong
>>

>Genoa was birthplace of several popes (Innocent IV, Adrian V, Innocent VIII, and Benedict XV) and various saints (Syrus of Genoa, Romulus of Genoa, Catherine of Genoa, and Virginia Centurion)
>the St. George flag cultural influence England and it’s language
Venetiansis…

The Fourth Crusade was unbelievably retarded, and should not have ended with sacking of Constantinople. Pope Innocent III did have a good idea of sailing to Egypt and using the Ayyubid Sultanate as leverage to take Jerusalem, but they aquired debt from purchasing boats from Venice, which was pretty retarded. Enrico Dandolo basically forced the crusaders to attack Zadar, meaning that Christians attacked other Christians. Alexios IV Angelos forced them to attack Constantinople, leading to the Sack of Constantinople and the creation of the Latin Empire. This event severely weakened the Byzantines, which helped the Ottoman Empire conquer them centuries later.

>This event severely weakened the Byzantines, which helped the Ottoman Empire conquer them centuries later.
they were already on borrowed time since post-Manzikert. The First Crusade os what unironically saved them at the time
Not saying that the IV Crusade helped, but it didn't really make things much worse than they already were
>>
>>18379979
But isn’t 4th was successful as conStantinople (future Turkic clay) know for unpenetrable wall and defense network?
>>
>literally the most successful Crusade
>retarded
>>
>>18379164
No, it was so much more retarded than it sounds.
>>
>>18380002
nta, but huge advantage of crusaders was their fleet. seawall wasn't as intimidating as other parts.
>>
>>18380027
Successful for whom? Only Venice looked like non-retards from the 4th crusade.

The Crusaders and Venice.

>nooo attacking byzantium weakened christendom
Had they mended the schism between Greece and Rome the medieval catholic church would rally all of Evropa in their defense against the Saracens, the 4th crusade was the best hope of accomplishing this. Instead Byzantium insisted on keeping christendom divided, even siding with arab-semites against white european crusaders, of course only to get stabbed in the back by the muslims later.
>>
>>18380456
pic being what Egypt could have avoided if it was conquered in a crusade and eugenics was implemented to remove arab-semite taint, it would be a free and prosperous society today as it was during its bronze age height
>>
>>18380475
>egypt removing Semite taint

I think Israel is hiring literal retards from the darkest slums of Karachi to be retarded online.
>>
>>18379164
Literally the only people who acted logically were the Venitians and that's a low fucking bar. The Greeks and Franks were both pants on head retarded and it showed by the fact that Greek emperors kept getting deposed and killed and the Latin "emperor" died fighting the Bulgars like two years after the sack of Constantinople and the "empire" fell after like 50 years. The fucking Catalan Company had a longer lasting oresence in the Balkans than the Latin Empire.
>>
>>18379300
>Ywn live in a world where the Kingdom Duchy of Apulia conquered the Balkans from Alexios
>Followed by a mostly Franco-Norman crusade willing to actually swear fealty to the emperor of the East
>>
>>18380664
Based catalans btfo the latins at their game
>>
>>18380002
The Fourth Crusade was militarily successful but not religiously. Constantinople's Theodosian Walls, deep moats, and naval defenses along the Golden Horn had staved off multiple attacks, such as the Seige of Constantinople, so yes, the city was known for it's great defense network. However, the crusaders relied on ships from the Republic of Venice, allowing direct attacks on the sea walls. After the crusaders looted the city and founded the Latin Republic, the Byzantine Empire was severely weakened and left vulnerable to the Ottoman Empire, finally leading to the Fall of Constantinople, although it was centuries later.
>>
>>18380027
1st Crusade was a miracle success, it was so crazy that it kickstarted the concept and inspired so many imitations
>>
>>18379164
yes, dumb crusaders + dumb byzantines + dumb orthodox coping about it to this day
>>
It was fucking retarded. Christians fighting Christians.
