Why were the 70s so shitty?

At least they weren't speaking German

Oil crises mainly

The fashion of that decade was easily the worst mankind has ever had to endure

I kinda like the interior decor from the 70s though. Lots of earth tones and warm colors, wood paneling, tassels... some of it could veer toward pretentious bohemianism with abstract patterns and cluttered shelves, but there was a definite strain of cozy, homey vibes in a lot of it that is decidedly lacking in modern, sterile interior design.

Shag carpets give me the ick

General nihilism. Everyone thought the Russians were winning, and strictly speaking, they were. The West was rapidly losing any sense of civilizational identity.
The only reason the 80s/90s are remembered as better is because cheap Chinese goods flooded the market

It's hard to speak about that from a perspective where Communism has already lost, but back then it genuinely seemed plausible that the long-term future would be a Communist one. On the domestic front there were energy crises, leftists were committing terrorist acts left right and center, the college wing of a certain political party was abandoning God(the "Christian right" didn't form in a vacuum, it was a reaction to something which was unthinkable prior), entire white neighborhoods were being ethnically cleansed and then blamed for it with the term "white flight", and white children were terrorized under desegregation busing.

No, that's modern fashion of imitating niggers.

Also because Reagan came in and said "new plan, we win and they lose"

Sony and Nintendo are Japanese companies, though.

It was the backwash of the 60s, with all the dope and sex but none of the idealism and flower power. Grownups were swinging and divorcing while their kids smoked weed and fucked in shag carpeted basements. The long post WWII boom finally ran out of steam and the oil embargoes made it worse. A bunch of desert nomads had us by the balls and gas lines and high prices took away the sense of freedumb of the road that we had always taken for granted.
Black power idealism fizzled out and the blue collar jobs once available to any self respecting brotha were evaporating, resulting in crime, drug addiction and welfare mommas. Crack wasn’t a thing yet but there was plenty of regular coke, heroin, and PCP aka angel dust in the ghetto. Lagging a little behind this was the death of the white working class—despair, dope, unemployment, families and communities unraveling.
There were flickers of optimism as people celebrated the Bicentennial and elected a progressive southern Democrat after the Nixon/Ford miasma, and it seemed like the culture wars were behind us but by the end of the decade the economy was worse than ever and a bunch of bearded fanatics controlled oil and hostages. Reagan’s Morning in America looked like a bright optimistic time then and now but the slow enshitification and social decay continued with new ugly fashions and music.

Any optimism in the 60's was only felt by those in the counter-culture, which the vast majority of the general public at the time despised. The 60's had as much low morale as the 70's. The counter-culture freaks were younger and had the backing of the intelligentsia so all they had to do was wait a few decades and rewrite the narrative. By the 90's they accomplished this.

putting aside the overtly hippie/disco aspects, i honestly find 70s take on male classic fashion kino
>>

>The 60's had as much low morale as the 70's
That will apply to 67-69 mostly, the Kennedy years were optimistic and everyone was in high spirits.
>>
>>18379924
>Why were the 70s so shitty?
Great Society programs
Consecutive Presidents leaning on FOMC to keep rates low
Cities being run by socialist retards for the past 50 years started to take its toll =
perfect storm
>>
>>18381366
>Great Society programs
in fact the great crime wave in America almost perfectly coincided with the creation of nationalized gibes in 65 and its abolition in 96
>>
Everyone just kind of gave up, only Hollywood and music had any effort put into them.
>>
>>18379924
the old moral codes were swept away in the 60s and the new moral codes didn't have any rules around them yet. it was a free-for-all where people tested the limits of what they could get away with.
>>
>>18380213
>Oh my God! Is that a single Black Family moving in across the street?! Martha get the kids we have to flee the city right fucking now! AHHHHH SAVE ME NIGGERMAN!!!
>Ethnically Cleansed
>>
>Economy goes to shit
>Things obviously get bad as a result
>50 years later posters on a Mongolian basket weaving forums religious debate board come up with convoluted explanations based on the cycles of the moon or "death of moral codes".
>>
Most people in the 70s, 80s, even all the way to the 2000s were functionally sociopaths and it was half-encouraged by the media to be an angry me smash things caveman. Violent and childish reactions to things were almost expected.

>>18379924
Prosperity makes it easier to solve social problems. The lack of prosperity aggravates them
>>
>>18380056
cheap chinese goods weren't until the 00s.
>>
>>18381394
So why did the white population drop from 90% to sub 60%? Sounds like ethnic cleansing to me.
>>
>>18381362
>the Kennedy years were optimistic and everyone was in high spirits.
I wouldn't say high spirits, mostly just a continuation of the aggressive anti-Communism of the 50's, including the fears of nuclear war. But yes there wasn't the chaos and malaise of the late 60's just yet
>>
>>18381397
>>18381412
The economy was doing fantastic in the 60's and morale was still low, try again.
>>
>>18381476
that was due to mexicans (and now Indains).

Black people were always here.

Blacks moved into white neighborhoods, terrorized the residents, and becuase the CRA abolished freedom of association the only way to have proper conditions for them to raise their children they had to move out. It was an ethnic cleansing - the only ones who stayed were the unfortunate elderly whites who were the biggest victims of the entire process. Read Left Behind in Rosedale.

The US is a net exporter of oil today, which was not the case back then. Oil prices can rise of course, but you won't see people waiting in line for gas anymore.
