How the fuck did a lying schizo dumbass convince dozens of people to spend millions to build this gorgeous massive building based on obvious lies and shitty made up stories that are boring to read and obviously false?

>Uhhhhh durrrr i saw a guy who was literally named Moron and he fell from the sky and told me that the native americans burried a jewish book inscribed on fucking gold, an extremely rare atom, and then i translated it using a magic hat and then the angel took the book back so i dont have it anymore but its real because eight witnesses claimed they saw it which is obviously not sound evidence and would never hold up in a court of law especially since theyre all my personal friends.

And like the jews actually sailed to america just to bury the book here.

Were people simply more gullible back then? Lol.

Joseph Smith’s wife stole the original manuscript of the Book of Mormon and told him to do it again, and the second manuscript was substantially different

Most people will believe anything said with confidence. Recognizing their generally inferior understanding, they use heuristics to determine truth by deferring to perceived "experts". That's how scammers and ideologues work.

That's what the NPC meme is all about. The average person will believe anything if it pushes the right buttons.

What determines what BS the cattle accept and what they reject? Is it just whoever is friends with the elites gets to enforce their opinions? Most religious leaders were actually rich or knew elites but ironically they are written about as poor when it is false. Lol.

You think people aren't gullible now?

Idk OP why do you donate to twitch streamers and only fans girls?

That is not really a comparable example.
>Gimmie 5 bucks and ill give u attention

vs

>Build a massive temple and dedicate ur life to me and my magic friend will use magic to save u from death

Lol.

Yeah why would anyone give money to a living celeb who they love.
It makes more sense to give money to an organization of tyrants operating on behalf of a dead schizo.
Lol.

It's not really the specifics of the made-up theology that matters as much as it was ~new~ and the imminent end of history is happening ~right now~ and YOU can be one of apostles like in the original church which will build Zion RIGHT HERE IN AMERICA. That's right my friends. This was appealing to a bunch of people living in the middle of nowhere in the early 1800s for a variety of complex economic and social reasons.

Also see the Mormon church thriving on an asteroid colony in The Expanse. There was something about people living in a relatively harsh and isolated environment in America, which was also changing rapidly, with weak social institutions. There were a lot of independent small farmers who were being uprooted by commercial farming for the first time.

That's why Trump won the election. He preached that he knew what he was doing with such a confidence everyone, including me, believed him
