The reason the North American Colonies ended up more prosperous than the South American colonies did was specifically because the English actually treated the Native Americans as equals. They regularly traded with Native Americans and gave them guns. All Native American Wars were fought as though they were equals, and thus any victories over them was seen as fair game. This gave the Natives more respect for Western Governments in the long run even though the road to get there was paved in blood.Meanwhile, the Spanish had little respect for the Natives, they didn't treat them as equals, but rather as suhuman savages that needed to be brought under submission, this resulted in generations of Natives who hated their local governments and promoted more violent behavior amongst them. They were not given the same mutual respect that North American Indians had.
