We've never seen religious devotion like the devotion of Indians and Pakistanis. While the Arab world and Turkey is said to be "secularising", this can never be the case in India, Pakistan and Bangladesh. All Muslims there including the diaspora’s in the U.K are diligent upon religion. There's no such thing as being too weak to fast Ramadan or travelling too much to be able to fast in Subcontinent thinking. For Subcontinents, fasting is to be observed ruthlessly whether you are in the Subcontinent or in the U.K, if you die of thirst in a heatwave then you die, so what? Indians collapse every year in baking heat and they will not yield in the slightest, not a single drop of water will pass their lips. They will stick to Islamic principles and rituals no matter what and absolutely refuse to budge. So in somewhere the UAE, Turkey, Egypt, Bosnia, it might be a bit odd to see someone not fasting but then maybe he has a reason or an excuse. For Pakistanis, Bangladeshis and Indians there IS no valid excuse, the man who is not fasting will be challenged, probed and shamed if necessary.Likewise, Subcontinentals pray every single prayer including voluntary prayers, and on this there is no compromise. If you have to beat your children into the mosque then so what? if you have to whip your son into pronouncing Arabic letters correctly, then this must be done. There is no such thing as wearing jeans, t-shirts and western clothing either for Indians. Islamic dress in the form of robes, salwar kameez, sandals and prayer caps must be worn at ALL times regardless of climate. While it may be common to see a Moroccan, Iranian, Iraqi, Syrian, Palestinian in jeans, shirts and sweatsuits, this is rarely the case for Subcontinentals who MUST look devout at all times. Devoutness they have no problem implementing.
