Why do third worlders love this guy so much?
Had some good ideas and died before he turned bad
>>18400160The bar is really low. Patrice Lumumba was a lot better.
>>18400227Nkrumah and Nasser were better
>it's an Africa junta that uses random buzzwords like Democrat Liberation People's Peace Socialist Unity Front
>>18400190real?
who doesnt love Eddie Murphy?Beverly Hills Cop is my favorite
>>18400190Surely you jest
>>18401579Nkrumah maybeNasser was definitely the best, but he was Arab so it doesn't count. I'm talking about Sub-Saharan African heads of state. Very few positive examples.
Because of a meme circulating about him retconning his tenure and giving him the image of an idealized Marxist anti-colonial hero.>self-avowed Marxist ideologue>limited his possessions to a car, four bikes, three guitars, a fridge and a broken freezer>sold Mercedes government cars and swapped them for Renaults>rejected the IMF and World Bank>rejected all foreign aid>redistributed land>achieved food self-sufficiency>implemented vaccines against measles, meningitis and yellow fever>implemented a literacy program>established tree nurseries to resist desertification>illegalized female circumcision and arranged marriages>was murdered by French neocolonialistsOf course all of this is either irrelevant, blown out of proportion, false or not actually good for Burkina Faso. Most of these programs were limited in scope or taking place all over Africa at the time in "capitalist" countries making it debatable if Sankara was a relative improvement. Food self-sufficiency was due to a recovery from a drought not miraculous Marxist economic policies. Being suspicious of the IMF and World Bank is one thing, but denying charities trying to help his people is despicable whatever way you look at it. Were they all "capitalist spies"? No, it was completely deranged and more or less settles said debate, he impoverished Burkina Faso in terms of opportunity cost. He then tried to whip up some kind of Maoist cultural revolution complete with kangaroo courts accusing random people of crimes against the people, then brutally put down a trade union strike. He was then overthrown by those closest to him after trying to start a war with Niger.Sankara is both an idealized Marxist hero and an example of everything that is wrong with it.
>>18400160He was killed and the guy after was unpopular so he gets the JFK aura.

>>18400160Third worlders from west africa actually probably hate him since he tried to take power away from the traditional leaders and impose a secular society. I think he was also against female genital mutilation Third worldists in the west love him because he was le based negro tragic hero who was backstabbed by his friend
>>18400160wakanda if he real
>>18403015I can't find any source on a war with Niger. There's thishttps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Agacher_Strip_WarAnd according to his successor he had been pushing hostilities towards Ivory Coast, but nothing about Niger

>>18400160If more third world countries had guys like him the less of them would live here thats enough for me to like him
Why is it "le cringe" to like this guy?
>>18403015>lists a shit ton of achivements done under intense international and french pressure.>lol Marxists are overblowing his sucess and he didn't want to give free shit away whenever. Its impressive how you state that all he did was meaningless without proving a single thing or otherwise coping by saying it wasn't his fault. I wonder if you use the same sort of logic for fascist and capitalist regimes, its not actually fascism or capitalism that achieved any of that stuff instead it was magic and the people in power had nothing to do with it! Stfu retard.
>>18403051>Third worlders from west africa actually probably hate himI don't think so. What third worlders from Africa care about more than anything in political/ideological terms is developmentalism and getting the kind of life that appears to exist in the West. Then following from that, they basically project those desires and fantasies of being strong and successful onto various strongmen who can range from Sankara to Paul Kagame to Adolf Hitler depending on how schizo they get. They don't sweat the ideological differences much as long as the figure they're projecting their fantasies onto represents developmentalism which = success, which = legitimacy. If there's talk about democracy among intellectuals then it is usually instrumental in their approach, that democracy would be useful in serving development, but when an experiment with democracy fails to serve development (because the politicians made off with all the bags) then they're not interested in democracy, and not democracy for its own sake.Sankara represented a Marxist-Leninist trend (very Cuba inspired) in the 80s where a "people's democracy" was seen as the outcome of a vanguard-led popular revolution, but which resulted in an authoritarian populist leader who conceived of development as like a war on poverty waged by a single iron-willed party / military junta. That ended in a bloodbath and the Soviet Union collapsed a few years later so that specific method of rule also died but the strongman thing persists.
>>18403051A lot of Burkinabes still like him, the current dictator is trying to associate himself with the Sankara period for a reason.
Basically the average African political mentality is like those slop YouTube videos of Traore discovering a trillion dollars in gold and he's going to make them all rich. The West is shocked!
>>18403015Charities have crippled Africa's development because it turns out giving everyone free jerseys of the team who lost the Super Bowl that year is bad for developing basic industries like textiles or clothing and indeed is detrimental to local cultures. These NGO charities are also often full of CIA spooks and other scum (see USAID).
