Part of it is that Indians simply don't have a cultural emphasis on virtues like honesty, fairness, loyalty, and so on, and instead they emphasize things like appearing strong and important. Once of the chief ways you appear strong and important in India is to avoid doing real work, and to make other people work for you. That is the purest expression of power and status. This is why wealthy, high-caste Indians behave like total slobs when they are tourists or immigrants. They make obscene messes everywhere they go because it demonstrates their status. They don't have to clean. That is a job for somebody lower status than them. If you tell them to do any kind of manual labor or clean up after themselves they'll haughtily tell you how much money they make and say it's not their job. And if you think that means the lower castes are hardworking and clean, you'd be wrong, because just like in the west everybody tries to act as though they are high status so that means everybody is as slovenly and lazy as they can get away with, according to their status. Somebody who has to actually work for a living can still find a way to shove his workload onto others at his job, using intimidation or manipulation to get them to do his work while he takes credit for it.
