Are they really derived from Proto-Indo-Europeans? From what I've read, much of the criticism stems from their absence in practically all branches beyond the Germanic, and Ymir wasn't really Mannus's brother, and the former was a literal giant. It seems Lincoln wrote a lot about this, and there's a lot of schizophrenia, like saying they were androgynous/hermaphrodite or some such nonsense. Can we discuss this myth in detail and its context within PiE?
>>18400732Perhaps it would be a good idea to investigate Celtic literature? Literally yesterday I discovered that there is a Pillar of the Boatmen that also features representations of a lost Gaulish myth. The monument is famous for providing several Gaulish theonyms, including the only indisputable example of the divine name "Cernunnos," the horned Gaulish god of the underworld; the rest is somewhat debated, sorry to contribute directly.
