It's hard to imagine such a transgressive and backwards religion being able to usher any era of scientifically prolific thought. Looking at 19-20th century middle east, It was still mostly the Persian and Jewish population in Baghdad, Isfahan and Damascus who were the most frontier types in that part of the world, despite proportionally being much smaller than they were a thousand years ago. How much of it was due to forced conversion of minority group intellectuals?

What is actually seen is that over time the amount of works that were devoted to science and anything useful, switched to works about Islam. This was also concurrent with the rise in number and influence of Islamic education centres. Pretty much just so many intelligent people were drawn into those by the large amounts of money and influence that scientific progress stalled.
