President Biden more or less built this, so it was feasible. Whether or not it would have made financial sense is a different question.

The Nike missile is one of the fastest accelerating missiles every produced and it still could not hit a re entry vehicle. The Soviets were never really a threat. Their communist system strangled their society and they went bankrupt. But soon the US will go bankrupt too, just 40 years later.
