I'm a Catholic and even I don't think this is a fair criticism of Islam. They don't literally worship the black cube. It's just representative of when Mohammed went in there back when it was a pagan temple and smashed up the pagan idols and relics. That's all it is. Apparently it's pretty much empty inside. Evrn if it got completely destroyed it wouldn't invalidate Islam to Muslims because they'd just rebuild it. They did it before apparently.

I suppose the idea of going there and praying around it or towards it is to worship and acknowledge God's oneness. Or at least that's what it seems like to me.

They didn’t, what they actually believed was that the statue was a “conduit” of sorts that allowed them to communicate with the god. After carving the statue, they would do a complex ritual that they believed would transfer the gods’ essence into the statue; the god was still believed to reside in the heavens but their essence was now present in the statue and allowed for contact with the deity.

I didn't say that. I don't believe that Buddhists think it is anything more than a statue. But from what I have seen about Buddhism online is that beliefs vary widely. Nost seem to see Buddha as a guiding figure who taught others to achieve Nirvana, and the founder of the religion.

But I certainly think that we should be allowed to question the religions of others at the very least.
