Historically speaking how could people possibly claim that The Americas were 1 continent instead of 2 or more while also trying to claim Europe and Asia were seperate continents instead of just being Eurasia? Was this just iberian butthurt that England won?
>>18403244More Latam butthurts these days but yes. 99% of the time when someone is screeching about it being 1 continent, you know you're dealing with a brown skin shanty town dweller
>>18403244>The AmericasThe clue is in that name, the 's' on the end of Americas makes it plural meaning more than one, you have North America, Central America and South AmericaYou can thank me for a basic lesson of the English language
>>18403244Just butthurt Latinx
>>18403276Europeans confirm that Only Americans are American, though
>>18403244It's just a convenient rule of thumb for landmasses of roughly equal sizes being separate continents, following the Renaissance/Ancient Greek idea of Europe and Asia being separated by the Tanaïs river, and Africa and Asia by the easternmost arm of the Nilotic delta. By the time Europeans had circumnavigated Africa and South America to estimate their sizes and realize the Panama Isthmus only narrowly separated the two largest oceans, it was natural to mentally separate North and South America into separate continents.
>>18403994Add the fact Europe, Asia and Africa are linked since 30 mln years. North and South America only since 3 mln ones
>>18403994but why do thirdies and iberians continue to deny it?
>>18403244Basically, America at first was used for South America on an Italian map backed by Spain, which England got hold of. But Spain hardly ever called it that, they stuck with stuff like “the Indies” or “West Indies”Later on the English picked up “West Indies” too, but they only used it for their Caribbean colonies
>>18403271Literally every other country in the world, including actual white countries in Europe, consider America a single continent. And from North to South you are all equally mutts.
>>18404424delusional chicanoall white europeans view north and south america as separate continents
