Hellenism is the purpose religion and myths turned into entertainment for the masses.
As soon as imitators and copycats started showing up to do as they pleased, especially for money, they fucked everything over.

Trying to learn about any of the big mystery cults of Hellenic Greece is kind of a nightmare because of how much they get conflated with each other in modern sources. The argument could then be that people back then conflated them too but we just don't know enough about them to state that definitively.
