I don't think it's being kept away from history, rather, it's about how (interpretation) you choose to understand it without modifying the details. That's one aspect.

Another aspect is “coded” (covert) history in religious texts, folktales, poetry, anything that'd be tied/influenced/affected by [political] power to serve itself during a certain point in time.
