Ultimately it was eating the forbidden fruit that allowed mankind to rise up above the rest of the animal kingdom. It's meant to explain why animals don't have to wear clothes and are allowed to freely have sex without social norm, because animals didn't eat the forbidden fruit, and originally humans were no better than they were.
