Because Comanche lived on horseback following the great herds of buffalo, similar in many ways to steppe peoples, Comanche boys were taught to ride from an early age with and without a saddle. The average white person on the other hand was a farmer who maybe knew how to lead a horse to pull a plow or a cart but probably had little experience on horseback, only a few specialists like cowboys and cavalrymen had any real training, and rarely from infancy which apparently gives someone an edge.
