For the first time robust genetic support for the hypothesis of a Galician provenance for Christopher Columbus, laying a definitive foundation within the scientific discourse for the re-evaluation of his historical identity.

“Archaeogenomic and Bioinformatic Analysis of the Columbus Lineage: Evidence from the Counts of Gelves.”

He married a Portuguese woman and his children were half Iberian, it is obvious that that his descendants were Iberian. Why haven’t they published the autosomal DNA of Columbus? They have it. Unfortunately, this doesn’t tell us anything.
>>
Columbus being Italian ALWAYS has been a lie.
Basically in the late 19th century Italian Americans were lynched by a furious mob and the US government to appease the relations with Italy came up with this one grotesque joke called Columbus day and that's how Columbus became Italian.
Thankfully as Hispanics become more prominent in American politic and as genetic shed light on this matter this narrative will be dismantled.

The one funny point is that even going by the Italian theory Columbus was genoese, in a time Italy was little more than a geographical expression. But Italian-Americans are virtually all southern Italians who would have been more genetically removed from this hypothetical Columbus than any Iberian or Frenchman is.
To think that a random Sicilian-American can claim kinship with Columbus just because his grandparents immigrated from a country that happens to share a border with the place Columbus was born is such a twisted thing that it could only came out of America.

It's not a mere theory he was Genoese, he wrote that himself as did his own son and sailors from his crew. Italian historians also went through the Genoese archives and published volumes relating to his familial history in the 1896 Raccolta Colombiana. He was well understood to be Genoese, until revisionist history about his origins began in the early 1900s by Latin Americans, then some Spaniards and Portuguese shamefully started doing it too despite coming from great nations that have no shortage of legendary explorers themselves. We would need Columbus's DNA to call into question such extremely strong evidence from his time and in his own words, which those Spanish scientists who made that documentary claiming he was Jewish do have, but it's not being released. Spain has a right to be proud of the Colombian Expedition, which couldn't have been done by any other state besides Spain or Portugal as Iberians had the best ships and naval technology in the world at that time. But pretending Christopher Columbus was anything but Ligurian without DNA is honestly disgraceful.

The rest of your post is an entirely different discussion.

I honestly don't even care about his ethnicity nor do I think it ultimately matters for the reason you exposed but there is an effort to minimize the Spanish role in the discovery of America from both American conservatives, which in fact is part of a wider effort to erase the Hispanic heritage in north America, all of it as part of a culture war by the dying remnants of WASP class facing its soon to come end. And then you have Italian led by far right and americanophile Meloni who go along with this. Last Columbus day both Trump and Meloni celebrated Columbus without a single mention of Spain or Castile as if it was as irrelevant to the man as Serbia was.
In that context it's normal that a respon is made. You understand that its problematic that the average bum thini that Columbus sailed for Italy and discovered America for Italy.
For example nobody would talk about Napoleon without making a single mention of France, the very idea seem insane. Well here you have it, that's what we're facing.
Btw the people who did this study are anything but delusional nationalist and are in fact most likely leftists, as most of Spain and Europe academic community is.

But that's because Columbus, an Italian man, was the true author of the greatest discovery in humanity's history, Iberians just accidentally happened to have had the money, tech and geographical position that could be harnessed to greatness by an Italian man.
In short Iberia was a mere tool for the indomitable Italian spirit.
Sure, We could be nice and have an honorable mention for the Iberians that helped them, but we are in no way obliged to it: an Italian man through his natural ingenuity, effort and curiosity discovered America and kickstarted Europe's golden age, period.
Anyway as an Italian it's quite funny and endearing, seeing spaniards or portuguese or whatever mystery meat these guys are choose such a dumb hill to die on.

No it's because shitaly was a fragmented shithole that was in the center of constant conflicts between Spain, the HRE and France so any man of consequence born there had to whore himself to a foreign country to do something.
>>

Furthermore Columbus relevance and legacy is largely tied to the US.
As the US decline so will Columbus as a figure. We will reach a point when actually nobody will care that much.

I'm the Apulian Canadian you're talking about, you're making assumptions again. I only made one post so far, which is this one >>18420229 and I think it was wrong for Meloni not to address Spain in that post by the way. But I don't think this is part of some deliberate campaign to erase Spanish heritage either.

I've been busy lately, which is why I haven't been really active as of late. On that note, the anti italian threads you may have seen these past few months weren't of my doing. The few thread I've made were anti moorish.
