does blowing up historic statues that were made to be worshipped, really send a message to idol worshippers?

Spending years giving offerings and bowing in front of something, that ended up being reduced to rocks? Do they then really get the message that what they were bowing down and praying to, was nothing?

In some parts of the bible, God and His people would tell the idol worshippers in Israel to try praying to their statues for help right before ending their existence, it detailed how the bones of the idol worshippers would be littered around the statues that they worshipped. And even that didn’t discourage them, they would always forget and worship things made by man

These statues were not destroyed in a fundamentalist iconoclast sperg out but as a protest against the west sending billions to its maintenance while afghanis were starving

Ironically, or rather poetically blowing up the statu aligns with Gautama Buddha's own teachings.
Taliban goverment was working with UNESCO to preserve it, but Afganistan was going through a famine, threatening over a million lives, exasperated by the crushing sanctions imposed by western goverment.
>"If money is going to statues while our children are dying of malnutrition next door, then that makes it harmful, and we destroy it"
>"the west is destroying our future, while asking us to care about our heritage?"
This was after delegate Hashimi, asked for relocating international funds meant for the restoration and preservation of the monument, towards feeding the children. Which was staunchly refused, as it was not just afghan heritage but the heritage of the Buddhist world.

Man, you really don't understand Buddhism, do you?

Buddha didn't even ask anyone to make statues of him and none were made until Alexander and the Greeks got to India

so they blew it up and lost the last of their funding
