I don't get Sulla glazing by this regard. He stepped down, and his strongarmed reforms aimed to make sure that institutions could not be challenged in the future and that no political strongman could defy the republic again. And it failed miserably because Julius Caesar did just that few decades later.

Trump is nowhere close as brutal or violent to Iran as Caesar was to France for example. He chopped off the hands of surrendered soldiers who fought against him so they never could hold a weapon again and massacred/ starved civilians several times. He brags of it in Gallic Conquest.
